MEMS-leader ISSYS expands facilities 30 percent with help from State of Michigan and Ypsilanti Township

Ypsilanti Twp, Mich., April 24, 2002 -- Integrated Sensing Systems, Inc. (ISSYS) announced it has expanded by 30 percent its facilities located at 391 Airport Industrial Drive, just east of Ann Arbor, Mich., to accommodate the company's rapid growth.

Selected under the Michigan Economic Growth Association (MEGA) program as a promising growth company driving job creation, ISSYS was awarded an incentive package from The State of Michigan and Ypsilanti Township that provides a high-tech Single Business Tax Credit of $634,000 over the next six years and a $300,000 property tax abatement over 12 years. These incentive packages were instrumental in ISSYS' decision to invest in its Michigan facilities.

President and CEO, Dr. Nader Najafi noted that "Critical factors in choosing to expand our facility in Ypsilanti are the proximity to the University of Michigan's world-class engineering and medical schools, the availability of outstanding people, and the tremendous support from the State of Michigan and Ypsilanti Township." ISSYS anticipates growing its workforce to 119 employees within the next five years.

ISSYS' newly expanded 11,000 square foot facility houses its state-of-the-art equipment for designing and manufacturing innovative products, including Class 100 clean room space, chemical labs, sensor characterization labs, specialized utilities, and office space. ISSYS uses its facility to enable it to consistently manufacture its leading edge MEMS-(Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) based medical devices and industrial products that target attractive markets. Products being developed in the expanded ISSYS facility include wireless, battery-less implantable MEMS sensors for cardiovascular and neurological applications; intelligent, low-cost, disposable diagnostic catheters with embedded MEMS sensors for cardiovascular, urological, and gastroenterological applications; and advanced Coriolis-based flow sensors to improve the way drugs are developed and delivered.

"This company demonstrates the commercial applicability of MEMS across a wide variety of industries," said Susan Lackey, president of the Washtenaw County Development Council. "As one of the first commercial MEMS ventures in Michigan, we're particularly pleased that they call the Ypsilanti area home."

ISSYS is a leader in advanced micromachining technologies for medical, microfluidic and industrial sensing applications. Founded in 1995, it operates its state-of-the-art MEMS fabrication facilities in Ypsilanti, MI. For more information, visit http://www.mems-issys.com/
